our mission
The HGHC shall unite the member institutions of the Texas Medical Center for the furtherance of global health education, research, and service.
our vision
The Texas Medical Center shall be a world leader and international hub for global health education, research, and service.
our HISTORY
The Houston Global Health Collaborative began with the merger of two organizations with similar missions. One, the Wainerdi Global Health Roundtable, began as an effort to convene faculty and administrators across the Texas Medical Center for regular conversations over dinner and focused discussion about various, and previously unconnected, global health endeavors. The other organization, the Houston Global Health Collaborative, began as an effort among students across the Texas Medical Center to unite TMC institutions to further global health.
The first student event, the now annual Global Health Connect conference, was held in March 2012. The merger of these two organizations allowed faculty, students and other professionals the chance to combine resources and further the shared vision of the Texas Medical Center and greater Houston area as a truly global leader in global health.
Through a combination of grand rounds, quarterly round table dinners, annual conference, grants administration, fundraising gala, online educational modules and online utilities of our website, our current capacity to connect similarly minded people for the furtherance of global health is expanding.

what we do
We connect. By convening the member institutions of the world’s largest medical center, we provide critical platforms for promoting dialogue and collaboration to advance global health efforts.
We promote. By promoting dialogue, education and networking, and providing access to best practice, professional development and skills building, we help build capacity and close gaps in knowledge and expertise at every level of global health.
We mobilize. By advocating for an evidence-based approach to address global health challenges and for a concerted research effort to build that evidence base, we contribute to continuous improvement of the global health response.
